Visual Communication for Change
In this keynote titled "Visual Communication for Change," Aïda Muluneh explores the role of photography as a powerful medium for advocacy and social engagement. Drawing on her work as an artist, curator, and cultural producer, she reflects on the personal and cultural motivations that shape her visual language.
Through a presentation of her photographic and curatorial projects, Muluneh examines how visual storytelling can challenge dominant narratives, amplify underrepresented voices, and create platforms for African perspectives within the global arts landscape. The keynote also traces the founding of Addis Foto Fest and Africa Foto Fair, highlighting their missions and growing relevance in the international photography scene.
Central to the keynote are themes of education, empowerment, and the transformative potential of images in addressing urgent social and cultural issues.
