In this workshop we will discuss the photographic portrait and it's rich history. In an attempt to challenge the way you think about lighting, we will make portraits using common-place materials and tools and discussion will focus, not on which lights you use, but the way you use them.
The subtlety and nuance of light can elevate an image and fill it with texture and mystery. It can be as simple as a small patch of light reflecting off a window or as complex as a large studio lighting setup.
While sophisticated lighting equipment is an incredible tool, it's not always necessary to make a beautiful image. In this intimate workshop we will explore the use of simple household lamps and make elegantly lit portraits with them. We will also do lighting demonstrations using modern strobe equipment.
